Pierce --- Pierce worked in the Post Office in Waterford and likely managed a transfer to Dublin when his brothers took up their positions in Kingsbridge. I remember him working in the General Post Office, a building held sacred because of its historic association with the glorious Insurrection of 1916 which won freedom from England for twenty-six of Ireland’s thirty-two counties. Like many of his fellow workers in the GPO, he acquired a taste for alcoholic beverages and, for a time, it seemed that it was going to take possession of him. But, the strict upbringing of the Nolan family asserted itself and Pierry learned to control his propensity for overindulgence in alcohol. After the Easter Week Rebellion, he left the Postal Service and retired under Article 10. For some time he just passed the time in a leisurely fashion, principally reading since he was an avid reader and, like all the Nolans, highly intelligent. All the Nolans were remarkable for their piety and it wa thus no surprise when Pierry announced that he wanted to join the famous Cistercian Monastery at Mount Melleray, County Waterford. He tried this life for a period of time but eventually opted for the secular priesthood. He was ordained in the Diocese of Menivea in Wales where he died while a parish priest in the Parish of Saint Asaph.
