Excerpt from the "Writings of Brother E"

Cissie --- In my youth, I heard a lot of talk from my aunts about our cousin, Cissie Nolan. It appeared to my young mind that she must have been the most popular girl in Waterford, judging from the stories I heard of her attractive disposition. I had the pleasure of meeting her in Dublin when Aunt Ann brought herself and the children to live in Ardmore Avenue, Dublin on the death of her hubby. Cissie married James Keane of Clonliffe Road, Dublin. For years I have known all his nieces and their husbands and children but didn’t make the connection until I recently contacted one of Cissie’s daughters in Minnesota. On the very day of their wedding, Cissie and Jim left for America and settled down between Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska. Subsequently, they moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where Father Tom Nolan found a position for his brother-in-law, Jim. Jim Keane died at the age of forty-three: Cissie died at the age of sixty-one. They had twelve children, of whom six, three boys and three girls survived. They are: ... James -- Jim was the eldest son and remained single until the family matured when he married an Irish girl. He died quite young, leaving behind three sons: Kevin, a lawyer with three sons himself; Jim, an architect who is single; John, who is still at his studies and intends to marry a nurse soon. Kevin—Kevin was seventeen years of age when he was killed in an accident in 1935. Neil-- Nathaniel James Keane remained a bachelor and resides at 507 Third Avenue, Box 134, Seattle, Washington 98104. Dolly—Dolly is a constant correspondent of mine and the one to whom I owe thanks for all this news about our cousins in Minnesota. Dolly married Donald Orth, a very pleasant gentleman and congenial husband, if I am to judge correctly from the letters of Dolly and the family snapshots she has sent to me. The photographs of all the relatives, who are unknown to me except by correspondence, were particularly welcome and afforded me the chance to build a mental picture of the lovely cousins who were discovered far too late. The Orths have three children: Mary Jo, who is married to Tom Underwood, has two little boys, Tommy and Jimmy, and lives in Omaha, Nebraska; Don, named after his father, and his wife, Ann, have two young boys and live at 4427 Radford Avenue, West Hollywood, California 91607, where he is a teacher. Maureen-- The second daughter of Cissie Nolan, Maureen is married to Jerome Kraemer and lives in Omaha, Nebraska. They have seven children, five of whom are married. Their son, Eddie, is studying to be a doctor while daughter, Mary Kay, hasn’t found her niche in life yet. Mary – The last born of the very large Keane family, Mary has been delicate all of her life. She married a rather elderly gentleman, Peter Pawluk, and has no family. They reside in Minneapolis, Minnesota. All the Keanes are very anxious about Mary’s health and have been storming heaven with prayers for her restoration to good health.
